On Saturday 31st of August 2019, Oil Search Stadium in Port Moresby hosted a Rugby League double header. The first game was the Bronco’s Legends vs PNG Kumuls Legends (Papua New Guinea’s national rugby league team) followed by the NRLW’s women’s game between the PNG Orchids and the Brisbane Bronco’s NRLW side. 

Black Swan International Supported the event with Mathew Ferris conducting the safety and security brief for the touring Broncos’ teams.Black Swan International employee and former captain of the PNG Kumuls  John Wilshere (JV Manager), was lucky enough to be selected to play for the PNG Kumul’s Legends at fullback for the game. The game was played out in admirable fashion with the Bronco’s Legends coming away with a 44-32 win over the Kumuls.

The game drew a crowd attendance of over 2,000 people with the 60-minute spectacle finishing off with a little boy from the crowd scoring the last try for the game.

The game featured rugby league legends such as Ben Hannant, Chris Walker, Corey Parker, the mentioned John Wilshere, Kepi Saea and Scott Prince  .

Black Swan International’s  John Wilshere had this to say about the game “I’m always grateful for the opportunity to give back to the game of rugby league and in this instance to participate in the game between the PNG Kumuls Legends and the Brisbane Broncos Legends. It was also an opportunity to acknowledge past Kumuls for their contribution to the sport and share that moment with them, playing alongside former Kumuls legends with the likes of Arebo Taumaku, Dairi Kovae and Tuksy Karu  was an honour in itself.  The Legends match was also a great platform to support the development the women’s game of Rugby League in PNG with the match between the PNG Orchids (National women’s side) and the Brisbane Broncos NRLW side”.
